Franchise Spotlight: Car Cleaning

Significant demand, low investment and a simple business model among the merits of car cleaning franchises.

Government statistics show that were 20 million cars on Australian roads as of 2020 – up 1.5% on 2019 – which is good news for the car cleaning and detailing sector.

And car cleaning franchises, which generally provide franchisees with all necessary equipment and materials and support in every area of running the business, have been successful in carving out a significant portion of this market.

Services include exterior car wash, interior detailing, paint repair and restoration, cut and polish, and engine bay cleaning.  As well as individual motorists, repeat business is generated from car hire firms and businesses with automotive fleets.

Getting support in finding an optimal location is critical given the importance of passing trade, although many franchises provide mobile car detailing, which, with neither staff nor premises needed, require typically modest investments.

Also fairly easy to operate compared to some other sectors, car cleaning and valeting franchises tend to welcome aspiring franchisees from a range of previous careers.
