Franchise Spotlight: Van-Based
Earnings are often sizeable from day one, and many franchisees go on to run multi-van operations.
Van-based franchisees drive to customers’ homes or businesses to deliver goods or perform services. However, the most successful business owners often end up in an office-based role as they oversee an expansion to a lucrative multi-van operation.
From administrative to marketing tasks, that growth is propelled by support from head office, which leaves franchisees to hit the road and deliver a great service. Incomes can be significant from day one, helped by leads provided by head office and low overheads in what are usually home-based operations.
Franchises may seek franchisees with relevant industry experience, though in other instances franchisees come from a wide range of backgrounds and undergo intensive training to learn the role. Some already ran their own van-based business, but concluded that they would prosper more within a franchise network.
Franchise market analysis
Various industry trends, such as Australia’s comparatively healthy economic statistics and robust construction sector, are good news for the many van-based networks providing property-related services.
This includes handyman franchises, such as Fantastic Services, Jim’s Group and Hire a Hubby, which have contributed more than their independent counterparts to a positive industry growth rate, according to market research firm IBISWorld.
Some property maintenance service providers specialize more narrowly, such as Reliance Roof Restoration, pest control franchise Hitman, oven cleaning franchise OvenU, and pool and spa maintenance franchise Poolwerx.
Moving beyond property services, some franchises simultaneously offer customers the convenience of an at-home service and can reduce prices because they don’t need premises.
In the automotive sector, for instance, there’s mobile mechanic franchise Blue Toro and car detailing franchises Car Care and Express Car Cleaning.
Then there’s mobile pet care provider Aussie Pooch MobileDog Wash, mobile catering business Cafe2U, greetings cards distributor The Original Poster Company and Books and Gifts Direct, also a distributor.
